Black Shoulder Tang

The Black Shoulder Tang has a vibrant blue body with a distinct black shoulder mark extending from the gill cover to the dorsal fin. The posterior part of its body has an orange to red coloration, which further adds to its charm.

In terms of behavior, the Black Shoulder Tang is generally considered peaceful and non-aggressive towards other tank mates. However, it is essential to provide them with ample swimming space and hiding spots to minimize potential territorial conflicts. They can coexist well with most community fish and other peaceful species.

In the wild, this species is known for its feeding behavior, as it forages for small invertebrates and zooplankton among coral reefs. Therefore, it's crucial to provide a well-balanced diet that includes high-quality marine-based pellets, frozen foods, and occasional live or frozen brine shrimp or mysis shrimp.

As with any fish, the Black Shoulder Tang requires a suitable aquarium environment. A tank size of at least 75 gallons or more is recommended to accommodate their active swimming habits and provide enough space for their well-being. The tank should also have a mix of live rock and sandy substrate to mimic their natural habitat and offer hiding spots.

Water parameters are crucial for their health, and a stable temperature between 72°F to 78°F (22°C to 26°C) and a pH level of 8.1 to 8.4 should be maintained. Regular water changes are essential to ensure pristine water conditions.
